Email Newsletters
One great way to get coupons and find out about promotions is through company web sites. The best way I have found to stay up on coupon and promotion offers is to subscribe to their email newsletters.
Many of the companies don't require you to get their newsletter to get coupons but you may still have to create a login on their web site. But there are companies that just offer coupons to anyone who stops by the web site.
To get started, set yourself up a free email account you can devote to getting email newsletters. (Unless you don't mind getting them all in your regular email account.) I have an email account that I just use specifically for signing up for anything...like facebook, my health and car insurance newsletters, store rewards program cards, and email newsletters. It keeps all this stuff separate from emails I think might be more important from people I actually know. You may want to have several email accounts because some email coupons are specific to that email you get.
Also when you sign up for the newsletters they may ask for your street address. I always put it in there. I have gotten unexpected coupons, samples, calendars, etc. in the mail for signing up on their web sites.

Facebook and Twitter
Another way to get in on coupons and promotions is to "like" a company on facebook or follow them on Twitter. I have a Twitter account. It only gets used for posting my youtube videos. I guess I need to figure out how to find coupons on there. I do use facebook. I have signed up for free offers on facebook and printed coupons. Also by following companies on these sites you will get first knowledge of events. One day Meijer posted that gas prices were going up that day and sure enough they did.
